If you’re a healthy weight, you need no additional calories in the first trimester, 340 extra calories a day in the second trimester, and about 450 extra calories a day in the third trimester.?This is just a guideline/base and it totally varies per person. I am definitely eating extra my first trimester because I am starving and I am trying not to beat myself up.

What are some important nutrients?

  • Protein:?Aim for 71 grams of protein?a day. Lean meats, eggs, and dairy products, as well as nuts, beans, and soy products like tofu, are all good sources. Three servings a day should help you meet your goal.
  • Iron:?Getting 27 milligrams of iron is so important. This will come from a lot of your proteins, legumes and veggies. If you are vegetarian this is especially important to be conscious of to ensure you are getting enough
  • Calcium:?Four servings a day of dairy products will help you get the 1,000 mg of calcium you need. I cannot have too much dairy or it messes up my digestion so I stick to almond milk for this
