And did you know that 80% of weight loss is what you eat? Don’t get me wrong exercise and fitness are important to overall health and can help accelerate your results but nutrition is really SO important. As someone who has struggled with binge eating, diet pills, emotional eating and other disorders it’s CRAZY to me that I am now certified to help others reach their goals, but if I can do it, so can you!?
What Are Simple Carbs?
They are carbohydrates that are quickly digested, low in fiber and nutrients, and potentially high in added sugar.
Think: refined, overly processed ?white? grains and foods or drinks with added sugars. They?re basically carbs that aren?t whole foods found in nature.
These should be limited, they really can be ’empty calories’ and don’t provide much nutrition for the calories.
What Are Complex Carbs?
Complex carbohydrates are different from simple carbs in that they?re made up of longer chains of sugars. Because of this, they take more time to break down, which allows for a slower, more gradual release of energy. They keep you full and satisfied.
Whole grains, beans, legumes, and starchy vegetables (like sweet potatoes, butternut squash etc) are examples of complex carbohydrates. Complex carbs have fiber and vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients in addition to providing energy in the form of calories.
I always say ‘don’t count calories, make your calories count. ‘ And complex carbs give you a bigger bang for your calorie buck!
