The speed of the leader is what drives the speed of the pack!

What does the speed of the leader and showing great leadership really mean? Let’s talk about what it is, and what makes you a good leader. Who has heard this before? “My team just doesn’t want to do anything.” “My team…this. My team….that. No one is doing anything. I feel like I am doing all of the work.”??I hear this from leaders of teams, managers, and other of people who are in charge of groups.

If you feel like you are doing all of the work, my question to you is What work are YOU doing??Are you doing work to push them (to move forward) or pull them (and tell them they have to do this)? Here is the thing about motivation: The speed of the leader is the speed of the pack. Seriously, let that statement sink in.

If you are spending all of your time trying to PULL your team along, and are ignoring your OWN business, your team is not going to know how to succeed. They will see you pulling, pulling, pulling, but they are not going to see you as a leader who can set an example. Leaders who SAY to do X, Y and Z, but don’t actually do those things themselves, don’t have teams who can look to them as an example of success. Your team doesn’t want to just hear what to do be a success, they want to see it (and the best person to show them is you). Your team is counting on your to be a visual example of how to be a success and to run a business. The old saying that “actions speak louder than words” rings true for leaders in any area.
